Day to day itinerary

Day 1. Arrival in Mumbai
Arrival to Mumbai (Bombay). Later you will be taken to the domestic airport for you flight to Cochin. In Cochin, you'll be met and taken to check in at your charming, boutique style, heritage listed hotel. It is just a stone's throw away from Cochin Fort and the grave site of explorer, Vasco de Gama. You'll have the rest of the afternoon free to relax or explore on your own.

Day 2. Explore Cochin
In 1341 A.D., a cataclysmic flood opened the estuary at Cochin, paving the way for seafaring visitors from around the world. Today Cochin reflects a curious blend of past visitors, from the Arabs to the Chinese and from the British to the Portuguese. Vasco de Gama discovered the first sea route to India from Europe centuries after the Apostle Saint Thomas visited from Palestine.

Your exploration today will start with Fort Cochin and the synagogue. The synagogue in Jewish town was built in 1568, and rebuilt in 1664. Its interior is a hodge podge of styles, with hand painted blue and white floor tiles from Canton, 19th century Belgian chandeliers, and an elaborately carved Ark housing four scrolls from the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament. Afterwards you'll visit St. Francis Church, built originally by the Portuguese in 1510 A.D., believed to be the oldest church in India. The building was originally constructed out of timber and later reconstructed in stone masonry during the 16th century. Vasco da Gama who died in Cochin in 1524 was buried here before his remains were returned to Portugal 14 years later.

This afternoon you'll enjoy a private cruise on Cochin Harbour, passing Wellington Island, the Bolgatty Islands, and more fishing boats than you can count. You'll then return to the hotel and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Day 3. Periyar National Park
After breakfast, you'll check out and your guide will take you for a drive through the Cardmom Hills to Thekkady where you will stay at a lovely, eco style resort just outside the Periyar Forest and Wildlife Reserve. The higher altitude and cooler climate here make this area particularly lovely. Settle in to your charming cottage style accommodations and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day 4. Exploring the Periyar National Park
This morning you'll be taken for wildlife spotting and cruising on Periyar Lake (join-in cruise). You may encounter elephants drinking at the water's edge and other animals such as bison, wild boars and a wide variety of birds.

You'll then return to the resort with a little free time. Enjoy a jungle walk at dusk with your guide, on the lookout for birds and indigenous wildlife.

Day 5. Houseboat Cruising in Kerala from Alleppey – Kumarakom
This morning you'll check out of the hotel and drive a short distance to the town of Alleppey. Here you'll board a traditional Kerala Houseboat, a "kettuvallam" and spend the day navigating the winding waterways and canals known as the backwaters from Alleppey to Kumarakom. This bewildering labyrinth of shimmering waterways, composed of lakes and canals, and lined with dense vegetation, preserves the rural Keralan lifestyle that is completely cut off from the outside world. It is an intricate network of innumerable lagoons, lakes, canals, estuaries and the deltas of 44 rivers that drain into the Arabian Sea.

Your destination for the day is Kovalam Beach is one of the best beaches in Kerala where you going to have your own time for next two days.

Day 6-7. Kovalem Beach
Relaxing on the beach or individual activities.

Day 8. Fly back to Mumbai
Today your guide will meet you at the hotel and transfer you to the airport for your flight to Mumbai (Bombay.) On arrival in Mumbai you will be taken to a hotel nearby airport for day use room and dinner. In the late evening you will be transferred to the International airport.
