Africa

Africa is the Sahara’s oceans of sand, towering, snow-topped Kilimanjaro, impenetrable jungle and endless savannas. Egypt’s Pyramids and temples attest that the world’s first writing culture arose in Africa. Modern urban life surges ahead in cosmopolitan Nairobi, while traditional patriarchal and matriarchal cultures continue to thrive in close relation to nature.

Africa is the world’s second-largest continent, and perhaps the most diverse. 900 million people inhabit the continent, from the Egypt of the Pharaohs to beautiful Cape Town at the foot of Table Mountain in South Africa; from trendy Senegal in the west to Kenya in the east, which breaks all records in terms of animal life and tribes.

Exotic Africa
Has always inspired the imagination of Europeans and attracted adventurers, from the inquisitive Livingstone, to the colonial masters searching for cheap labour, cheap raw materials and, of course, power and prestige. The good old Greeks called everything south of the Sahara Ethiopia, and the enormous expanses of unknown land inspired ideas about spooky monsters and strange humanoid creatures.

One of the classic ways of travelling in Africa is the safari. Nothing can compare with seeing the wild animals that we know from zoos and animal programmes on TV in their natural surroundings. A tour in a four-wheel drive jeep among giraffes, gnus, zebras and the famous “Big Five” – lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo – is the ideal way to experience the majestic nature of Africa, and guarantees you an unforgettable holiday. Eastern and southern Africa, with countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa, is an eldorado of exciting national parks, where the many different types of animal are well represented, so there are good chances of being able to see them all.

If your
Interests are in history and highly-developed ancient civilisations, you must make Egypt a destination for your journey and discover the life of Cleopatra, Tutankhamen and the great sphinx at Giza. It can all be experienced on a round trip, perhaps with a cruise on the Nile included.

Of course, the African continent has a lot more than this to offer, including the beautiful, palm-lined sandy beaches of the Seychelles and Kenya’s coast along the Indian Ocean. There are also golfing tours. For these, South Africa, with its mild climate and fine golf courses, is a good destination.
